Grandma's History
It's been established that Grandma Josie was of Indian descent, so let's start with Grandma's parents. Her father's name was James (Jim) Gallimore. Her mother was a Black woman. It's believed that grandma was born in Oklahoma.
Grandma had a sister, Nancy (Aunt Frankie), two brothers - Andrew and Seph. The Gallimore family migrated to Tennessee. Her mother, Sophie died when grandma was between four and five years old, leaving her father to raise the children.
It's unknown when or how Grandma met and married Reuben Gentry. We know that he lived in Orange, Virginia at one time. What he did for a living is also unknown. We know that he was happy when he and Grandma were together. They had six (6) children - Helen, Margaret, Willis, Gladys, Daniel and Evelyn.
It's not clear how Grandma got from Tennessee to Orange, Virginia or if she ever did. There is a possibility they that they met in Harris, Pennsylvania. It's been said that Reuben also lived in Pennsylvania at one time. COULD IT BE that he worked on railroad as a cook?
After a period of time Grandma left Reuben along with the three youngest children, Gladys, Daniel and Evelyn and migrated to Flushing, Ohio. Margaret and Helen were left with Reuben and his mother. Willis died at a very young age. Her sister Nancy (Aunt Frankie) was already living in Flushing with her husband Roy McMillan and her father too. So.... Why was grandma left by herself (If she was) in Orange, Virginia or Pennsylvania? What was she doing?
She met a man by the name of Clarence Terry (GrandPap) after moving to Flushing, Ohio. He worked as a coal miner for the Hanna Coal Company. They married and moved to a place called Peanut Hill in Lafferty, Ohio. Later the moved to Bannock, Ohio were they lived until their deaths.
It's believed that grandma was just a plain old country woman without much education, but she had motherly wit, courage, strength and her love for you was unconditional. She leaves
a legacy for all of us.
